About Therapy
“Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response.
In our response lies our growth and our freedom.”.
Victor Frankl. Man’s Search for Meaning
I’m an integrative therapist. The humanistic, existential, and psychoanalytic traditions meet in a dialogic and intersubjective fusion.
In plain English I offer an authentic, non-judgemental, and accepting personal relationship and notice what is happening in our relationship with regard to a wide range of psychological theory and practice.
The purpose is to assist you to understand your emotional, cognitive, and behavioural responses to life’s challenges and change those where that is desired.
It’s never too late to come to talking therapy
Talking Therapy can help with all of these issues.
“You’re never too old or too set in your ways to change yourself and your experience of life. There are some special moments in a person’s life when they feel able to change. I believe that there are many more of those moments in therapy.” David Thompson
Do you feel cut off from your emotional life?
Our emotional and cognitive responses have a significant impact on our behaviour, who we are, and who we think we are. By developing awareness of our emotional responses we gain insight into what we feel and why we feel the way we do in certain circumstances.
The reality is that a significant proportion of us have cut off from our emotional lives for reason of self-protection that may no longer be helpful. Similarly, we may respond to certain situations and relationships in instinctive, unconscious, ways that were originally self-protective but are no longer helpful.
By developing awareness of our cognitive responses we can gain insight into how our brain works and this wonderful organ can work for us rather than against us. We begin to understand how it works and the problems it can get us into without mindful awareness.
Taking that first step to get in touch can be hard. Your initial commitment is to do no more than arrange and appointment and then turn up at the agreed time and day.
I welcome adult clients of any age, class, ethnicity, faith, gender identity, or sexual orientation.
